Harvey Elliott has only ‘one choice of club’ after devastating Unai Emery verdict

Harvey Elliott’s future does not lie at Aston Villa with Unai Emery not willing to give the Liverpool loanee a chance in the team.

That is according to ex-Aston Villa, Everton, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who states that Elliott will return to Liverpool in the January transfer window.

Elliott joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan in the summer transfer window, but the 22-year-old has only appeared five times for the club.

Upon ten Premier League appearances for the club, Aston Villa would have to sign Elliott permanently for £35million, but that does not look set to be the case.

Emery admitted at his media conference on Friday that Villa decided “two months ago” not to sign Elliott on a permanent deal, and that is one of the reasons for the scarcity of his appearancs.

Harvey Elliott only has one option

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Elliott can reignite his career if given a chance elsewhere.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness is surprised that Emery does not fancy the midfielder.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “They’ve obviously made a decision that Unai Emery just does not fancy him for whatever reason. And his only option now is to go back to Liverpool, because he’s already played for Liverpool and Villa, and he can’t play for any more than two clubs.

“So Liverpool is his only choice to go back, and we’ll see where he goes. But I don’t think it’s going to be that costly for Villa to do it. But obviously a lot cheaper than actually making him a permanent member.

“It’s a shame that didn’t work out because I have a lot of respect for Harvey Elliott. I think he could be a really good quality player somewhere if given a chance.”

Aston Villa open to offers on midfielder

Previous financial issues mean Aston Villa may be restrained in January as to how much they can spend on new signings.

As well as Elliott, Ross Barkley could depart Aston Villa if the club receive a suitable offer, with the 32-year-old yet to make a Premier League start this season.

Emery though will not want to lose any key players, with the Villains currently in the Champions League places.
