Liverpool news: Pundit issues emphatic Harvey Elliott verdict after ‘amazing’ teammate reveal

Danny Mills has hailed Harvey Elliott’s “immense confidence and self-belief” after returning to action for Liverpool.

The former England defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 18-year-old can play a “real part” in pushing Manchester City all the way for the Premier League title this term.

Elliott followed his FA Cup goal against Cardiff with a 31-minute cameo in Liverpool’s 2-0 defeat of Leicester at Anfield yesterday (10 February).

The midfield starlet has returned to action after suffering an ankle fracture dislocation during the Reds’ meeting with Leeds United in September 2021.

As quoted by Liverpool’s club website (9 February), teammate Trent Alexander-Arnold insisted Elliott had “conducted himself amazingly” during his five-month layoff.

Mills echoed the right-back’s comments and suggested the midfielder’s return will do the Anfield side “the world of good”.

“He can really push on between now and the end of the season as long as he gets enough game time,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley after the win over Leicester.

“Liverpool have got to push Man City all the way in the Premier League, and I think Elliott coming back will do them the world of good.

“He’s come back from that injury, got back without any complications, scored in the FA Cup and put a good cameo in against Leicester.

“His confidence and self-belief is immense. I thoroughly expect him to get fitter and stronger in the coming weeks.

“He can play a real part in these games – after what I’ve just seen, he’ll be back to where he was.”

Elliott had started three of Liverpool’s opening four league fixtures before his injury.

The 18-year-old is contracted at Anfield until 2026.
