Harvey Elliott responds to team-mate’s message as Liverpool exit beckons

Harvey Elliott’s future at Liverpool is still up in the air as the countdown to their Premier League title defence continues.

Liverpool‘s sheer domination of the rest of the Premier League last season will count for nothing come 15 August, when they face a Bournemouth side who they’ve already done business with so far this summer.

Milos Kerkez’s £40million move to Anfield is one of several statement transfers made by the Reds so far, albeit that fee pales in comparison to the £100m–plus spent to buy Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz, Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong’s arrivals have coincided with several high-profile departures from Anfield including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jarell Quansah, and Elliott could be the next to follow suit.

Elliott reacts to Alex Scott’s message away from Bournemouth

Bournemouth will head to Anfield on 15 August for the first game of the new Premier League campaign, after moving quickly to replace Kerkez with the £14.4m signing of Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert.

Truffert and Alex Scott look set to come up against Kerkez next month, but it remains to be seen if Elliott will still be part of the Liverpool setup as several Premier League clubs eye a move for the 22-year-old.

Brighton are the current front-runners to sign Elliott as Liverpool attempt to raise his price tag beyond £40m, as he responded to an Instagram post (6 July) by another midfielder based on the south coast.

Bournemouth’s Scott posted a compilation of photos from his off-season and England’s success in the Under-21 Euros captioned; “one of the better weeks”, and Elliott commented with the message of: “My brother, love ya”.

Football Insider Verdict

Liverpool breaking their own [and potentially the British] transfer record to sign Wirtz for £116.5m has set a benchmark for the rest of the Premier League, but they’ll still need to balance the financial books.

With Elliott’s performances in the Under-21 Euros potentially raising his price tag to well over £50m, the Reds will hope their Premier League rivals are willing to spend big money on the promising playmaker.

Elliott‘s lack of game-time last season leaves an exit very much on the cards this summer, but it remains to be seen if he’ll be sold before Liverpool look to strengthen further both out wide and up front.
