Harvey Elliott sends cryptic message as Liverpool exit beckons

Harvey Elliott could be the victim of Liverpool’s aggressive transfer strategy this summer, and the midfielder has taken to social media to send a mysterious message.

It has been a month of celebrations for Arne Slot’s squad, after they secured the Premier League title with four games to spare.

This week, the Reds celebrated their success with an open-top bus parade through the city, with thousands of supporters lining the streets to welcome the players.

However behind the scenes, the club are getting straight down to business ahead of next season, and look close to confirming two new signings.

Elliott’s Liverpool future in doubt

Football Insider exclusively revealed (14 May) that Liverpool have verbally agreed terms with Jeremie Frimpong, with the move expected to be completed in the near future.

Not content with securing one Bayer Leverkusen player, Liverpool are also in advanced talks with Florian Wirtz, after the midfielder rejected Bayern Munich.

However, the incoming German may force one or two of the current squad out, to ensure that Slot is not left with too many players.

Elliott could be set to leave Anfield if the Wirtz deal is completed, with Nottingham Forest reportedly interested in the 22-year-old.

The former Blackburn loanee was seen crying on the pitch during Liverpool’s title celebrations, and has left fans questioning his future after a recent social media post.

Taking to Instagram, Elliott posted a black and white photo of him holding the Premier League trophy, with no expression on his face, with supporters suggesting that this hints at an imminent exit.

Football Insider Verdict

Liverpool bought Elliott from Fulham back in 2019, and the then 16-year-old had a lot of hype and expectation around him at that time.

After a successful loan spell in the Championship, the midfielder had his breakthrough season in 2022/23, making 32 appearances for the Reds in the Premier League.

However, the England under-21 international has struggled to ever nail down a permanent spot at Anfield, making most of his appearances from the bench.

This season, Elliott started just two league games for Slot’s side, despite his 18 appearances, with the midfield of Dominik Szoboszlai, Ryan Gravenberch, and Alexis Mac Allister proving so consistent.

Add Wirtz to that list, and you can see why an exit is rumored for Elliott, and in truth, a fresh start is probably best for the player as well.
