Harvey Elliott shares Charlie Cresswell message after record-breaking twist

Charlie Cresswell and Harvey Elliott have both had their reputations boosted significantly at the Under-21 European Championships.

Lee Carsley‘s England Under-21 side this summer includes two players who have featured in the Three Lions’ senior setup in Jarell Quansah and Tino Livramento, and the latter made his debut last November.

Both Livramento and Quansah were stalwarts for England as they progressed through the tournament, but the performances of Elliott and Cresswell have seen the pair become history makers in the process.

Jobe Bellingham and Liam Delap were both absent for England with their new clubs involved in the Club World Cup, but Liverpool and Leeds United now stand to benefit from Elliott and Cresswell’s displays.

England acknowledge Cresswell and Elliott achievements

Arne Slot under-used Elliott last season in many fans’ eyes with just 822 minutes in all competitons, but Liverpool have now been told to command a transfer fee of £70million for the exit-linked midfielder.

Cresswell’s stock has also risen significantly after his breakout season with Toulouse and solid displays at the Under-21 Euros, just a year after he was deemed as surplus to requirements by Leeds United.

Elliott’s season ended with the opening goal in the Young Lions’ 3-2 win over Germany in the final and a ‘Player of the Tournament’ award to boot, as both he and Cresswell made history with England’s victory.

On 30 June, Elliott shared a post on his Instagram story from England’s official account after he and Cresswell became just the second and third Young Lions to win back-to-back Under-21 European titles, following their previous success in 2023.

Cresswell and Elliott pathways clear in good news for Liverpool

Football Insider Verdict

Cresswell’s performances for both Toulouse and England of late have left Leeds to rue the fact that they sold him for less than £3m last summer, particularly with Serie A side Como on the brink of signing him.

Liverpool are in a stronger position when it comes to Elliott’s future though, as Premier League clubs queue up for the 22-year-old with Brighton the current front-runners to seal a deal for him this summer.

Brighton are confident they can fend off their rivals and agree a £40m move for Elliott, but Liverpool will be keen to drive that price tag well above £50m after he proved to be the star of the show for England.
