‘Harvey Elliott to go for £70m’ – Liverpool fans react to stunning development

Liverpool have been told to demand fees of up to £70million in order to sell England Under-21s talisman Harvey Elliott this summer.

Elliott has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield after a lacklustre 822 minutes in all competitions last season, which included just 18 Premier League appearances and two starts in total.

That contribution was enough to earn Elliott a league winners’ medal, but the 22-year-old is expected to move on from Liverpool this summer in a bid to attain more game-time in his preferred position.

Florian Wirtz’s arrival for a club-record fee of up to £116million puts Elliott even further down the pecking order on Merseyside, but the midfielder’s performances for England’s Under-21s have turned heads.

Elliot leads England to Under-21 Euros success

Although Elliott has already attracted several enquiries from Premier League clubs so far this summer, his full focus has been on defending England‘s title at the Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia.

Elliott was part of Lee Carsley‘s tournament-winning side in 2023 as Liverpool team-mate Curtis Jones scored the winner against Spain in the final, and took centre stage for the Young Lions this time around.

England progressed to the decider once again and faced arch-rivals Germany on 28 June, with Elliott scoring a fifth-minute opener and playing the first 90 minutes of an eventual 3-2 victory after extra time.

Even Elliott’s substitution paid dividends as his replacement Jonathan Rowe scored the winner just two minutes into extra time, and five tournament goals earned Elliott the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.

‘Liverpool demand £70m for Elliott’ – fans react to England accolade

Brighton are the front-runners to sign Elliott this summer and are close to agreeing a £40million deal with Liverpool for the midfielder, but his displays for England Under-21s could result in a change of mindset.

A player of the tournament award to go with back-to-back Under-21 Euros titles and a Premier League titles will make Elliott an even more desirable player, as his big-game experience increases further.

Comparing Elliott’s prospective departure to Jamie Gittens’ highly-anticipated move to Chelsea, fans have urged Arne Slot to demand much more than £40m for a player who has “tripled his transfer fee”.

Fees as high as £70m have been suggested for any club hoping to sign Elliott this summer, and such a figure would certainly allow Liverpool to balance the books after their £100m outlay on Wirtz.
