‘Harvey Elliott to push for Liverpool exit after Arne Slot decision’

Liverpool winger Harvey Elliott is “not happy” with his playing time and will soon look to leave the club, according to a Sky Sports pundit.

The Reds ran out comfortable 2-0 winners against Newcastle on Wednesday (26 February), despite an odd refereeing decision going against Diogo Jota.

Manager Arne Slot was serving a touchline ban, and from the director’s box at Anfield, the Dutch manager used all five of his substutions.

Cody Gakpo, Jarell Quansah, Curtis Jones, Wataru Endo and Darwin Nunez were all brought on against the Magpies, with Elliott left to watch from the side-line.

Harvey Elliott impresses Tim Sherwood with reaction

Liverpool are open to selling Elliott, should he fail to commit his future to the club, Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively.

The former Fulham man has now been at the club for six seasons, with one of those being spent at Blackburn Rovers on loan.

Despite his talent, Elliott has failed to establish himself as a regular at Anfield, and Tim Sherwood explained on Sky Sports Soccer Special on Wednesday night why he was pleased with Elliott’s reaction to not being brought on.

The former Tottenham manager said (26 February, 10.16pm): “The trouble is for players like Harvey Elliott, I watched him and I was really impressed with what I saw.

“The other boys are coming onto the pitch, [Slot’s] made five subs there tonight and still no Harvey Elliott. He’s not happy.

“He was sat there and his face was so angry and annoyed, and I quite admire that. That boy is not going to sit there and just not play.

“He will want to leave that football club. I know it’s a brilliant club if he can fight his way into the team, but if he’s not going to play on a regular basis they’ve got players like that, and you need players like that who want to play and want to affect it.

“At the moment a top-quality player like him is sitting there and he’s getting no game time. If he don’t play, listen, he’ll be happy picking up a trophy and a medal but at the end he’ll want to contribute a lot more than what he’s done.”

Harvey Elliott following same path as former teammates Ryan Sessegnon and Fabio Carvalho

Football Insider Verdict

In recent years, Fulham have produced a number of talented players, who have since gone on to struggle away from the club.

Fabio Carvalho was demoted to the Brentford B team recently, after joining the club from Liverpool in the summer.

The Portuguese forward was a teammate of Elliott’s at Liverpool and Fulham, and despite his talent, he has struggled away from Craven Cottage.

The same can be said about Ryan Sessegnon, who joined Tottenham for £30million, only to rejoin the Whites this summer on a free transfer.

Elliott is now in danger of suffering a similar fate to his two former teammates, unless he can prove to Slot he deserves more playing time.
