Everton youngster Jonjoe Kenny can return to the club and “be a true Premier League star”.
That is according to Noel Whelan, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 22-year-old.
Whelan has been impressed at how Kenny has made an early success of his season-long loan to German club Schalke.
The right-back has started all seven of their Bundesliga matches under manager David Wagner and made a huge impression, continuing the trend of young British players shining in Germany.
“He’s doing really well at Schalke and that’s great to see,” Whelan told Football Insider. “He’s not going to start ahead of Seamus Coleman, who’s club captain and one of the main Everton players.
“But he’s getting great experience in one of the world’s top leagues, winning new fans and, ultimately, that can only benefit Everton as well as his own future.
“I see no reason why he can’t make it at Everton. He impressed me with what I saw of him – really tenacious and industrious – and he can be a true Premier League star, absolutely.”
Kenny has emerged from the Everton academy along with the likes of Tom Davies and Kieron Dowell to play 40 times for the first team.
He made 13 of those appearances last season but played second fiddle to Coleman, who remains first choice at right-back despite turning 31 earlier this month.
In other Everton news, it can be REVEALED that the club are plotting a move to sign £40million goal machine.
