'He doesn't have his teammates' ability'- Exclusive: Robinson digs out Liverpool outfield player

Paul Robinson hailed transformed Jordan Henderson after his sterling performance on his Liverpool comeback in last night’s Champions League thriller against Atletico Madrid.

The former Spurs and Leeds United goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, claimed the Anfield skipper does not have the “ability” of his teammates.

But Robinson praised Henderson for his leadership and sustained commitment as the Merseysiders suffered Champions League heartache with a 3-2 home defeat.

The match turned on a catastrophic blunder by goalkeeper Adrian in extra-time after Liverpool had gone 2-0 up to take a 2-1 aggregate lead in the tie.

Three Atletico counter-attack goals followed and Henderson lasted 105 minutes of an all-action display before being replaced by Fabinho.

When asked for his verdict on central midfielder after being thrown straight into the starting lineup, Robinson told Football Insider“Since his injury in the first-leg, they have really missed him. They have struggled to beat West Ham, lost away to Watford and performances have not been consistent.

“He does not have the ability of his teammates but he makes up for it with his leadership qualities on the pitch. You can see the respect others have got for him. His ball retention spreads calmness, he is always available. I really think he has improved no end in recent seasons.”

The Premier League leaders have seen their unbeaten run ended in the absence of the captain, losing 3-0 to Nigel Pearson’s Watford at the end of February.

Henderson has scored three goals in 34 appearances for the Champions League holders this season.
