Former Brighton assistant boss Mark McGhee has no doubt that Connor Goldson will be a success for Rangers, should he join the Ibrox club.
The 25-year-old centre-back has been strongly tipped to complete a £3million move from Brighton to Rangers, and McGhee believes that he has what it takes to be a major success for Steven Gerrard’s new look Gers side.
“He’d come to our attention because he has all the attributes” he said, as quoted by the Scottish Sun.
“He’s a big lump of a boy, he’s strong, athletic, he’ll make tackles, he’ll challenge in the air and he tries to play football the way Brighton want it to be played.
“He has got more than enough quality to succeed in the Scottish Premiership.”
Should Goldson complete his move to Ibrox he will potentially form a centre-back partnership with fellow new recruit Nikola Katic.
Football Insider verdict
These are certainly encouraging words for Gers fans about the ability that Connor Goldson possesses. Fans will just be hoping that the deal is completed sooner rather than later, as it does seem to have dragged on for a while, in comparison to the Nikola Katic deal, which was completed in a very short time. Mark Allen and Steven Gerrard do seem determined to bring Goldson to Ibrox though, and you would have to imagine that the deal will be completed sooner rather than later. Should Goldson sign you would imagine that would be the end of the defensive recruitment at Ibrox, especially in the centre-back area of the side. Allen and Gerrard will then have to turn their attention to other areas of the team, particularly up-front, but this all hinges on the deal for Goldson being completed, which the Gers will keen to get wrapped up as soon as possible.
In other Rangers news, Mark Allen will be a key man for the Gers this summer
