'He has proved me wrong' - Exclusive: Whelan makes big Leeds player admission
Noel Whelan admitted Tyler Roberts “proved a lot of people wrong” including himself with his performance for Leeds United on Saturday.
The former Elland Road forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, heaped praise on the 21-year-old for his display in the 4-0 victory at Hull City.
Roberts scored a brace after replacing Patrick Bamford in the 67th minute sparking debate over whether he should be used as a central striker for the remainder of the season.
It was the forward’s third goal in 13 Championship appearances this season having predominantly featured as a substitute.
When asked whether the Wales international has given his manager a headache, Whelan told Football Insider: “He got two goals in the space of twenty minutes so that says it all.
“He has proved a lot of people wrong including myself. I did not think he could play through the middle.

“Two fantastically taken goals. There are going to be question marks now over that starting centre-forward place come the derby game against Huddersfield. He has put himself in a really good position.
“However, it is not just about the goals. Everyone wants him to now be the main striker but that was not a great Hull side. You have to remember the job that Bamford has done for 70 minutes before that.”
Patrick Bamford has been criticised for his form in front of goal for Marcelo Bielsa’s side having only scored in one of his last 13 games.
Luke Ayling and Pablo Hernandez were also on the scoresheet at the KCOM Stadium which saw United move to within a point of league leaders West Brom.
The Whites return to Elland Road this weekend for a Yorkshire derby against relegation battlers Huddersfield Town.
