‘He isn’t happy’ – Man United outcast to push for January transfer

Man United are enduring another difficult start to the season under Ruben Amorim with issues now beginning to grow both on and off the pitch.

Having won just two of their opening seven games of the season across all competitions, questions are being asked of the boss, who remains under intense pressure.

However, Amorim‘s decisions on the pitch have also led to speculation surrounding the futures of a number of his players, particularly those on the fringes of the squad.

After spending big on deals to sign Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, Joshua Zirkzee‘s future has now been subject to much speculation.

Joshua Zirkzee is unhappy at Man United

Football Insider revealed in May that Zirkzee could be part of a Man United exodus, although no summer transfer emerged and he remained at Old Trafford.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the striker could now leave in January after growing frustrated by his lack of playing time as he aims to be part of the Netherlands squad for the World Cup.

So far this season, he has made just three Premier League appearances and racked up just 82 minutes of football, leading to questions about his role.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “A lot will depend on what Zirkzee wants to do. If he’s not playing regularly under Amorim, he might push or consider a move away, particularly with the next summer’s World Cup approaching.

“He’s only made three appearances in the Premier League this season, with only one of those as a start, and has played just 82 minutes in total.

“He isn’t happy with that situation, but obviously Amorim spent heavily on attacking reinforcements in the summer with Cunha, Sesko and Mbeumo.

“There’s always been interest in Zirkzee from Italy because of how well he did for Bologna before his move to Man United, so Como and Juventus are keeping tabs on his situation.

“If the player isn’t playing regularly between now and January, that will be an issue for him and he could push to leave Man United.”

Following his move to Old Trafford, the striker received high praise from his time at Bologna, as his former coach Willem Weijs labelled him “outstanding”. [Sky Sports]

Zirkzee could push to leave Man United in January

Interest from Serie A outfits Juventus and Como will present interesting options for the forward and could tempt him to push for a move in January.

Prior to his £36.5million move to Man United in 2024, Zirkzee impressed for Bologna and has attracted interest as a result of his Serie A displays.

Both Juventus and Como are looking to strengthen up front during the January transfer window, but whether Zirkzee will be allowed to leave United is up for debate.

Zirkzee’s former Man United teammate Rasmus Hojlund made the switch back to Italy with Napoli during the summer and is already reaping the rewards.

As a result, the Netherlands international could be tempted to follow in his footsteps and return to the country in an attempt to kickstart his career.
