'Head must be on a swivel' - Exclusive: Bruce reacts to confirmed Celtic transfer reveal

Alex Bruce insists the head of Celtic chief Gary Penrice will be in an “absolute whirlwind” after he revealed the major scouting task he has on his hands at Parkhead.

The former Kilmarnock defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, admits the recently appointed Hoops man appears to be making the most of the Coronavirus lockdown with his work behind the scenes.

Having been appointed as the Bhoys’ head of recruitment last month, Penrice has revealed he is currently scouting 240 players across the globe ahead of the summer transfer window.

Bruce believes that with such a vast number of players for Penrice to assess, the lockdown could work in the Celtic chief’s favour.

Bruce told Football Insider: “His head must be in an absolute whirlwind…on a swivel, really.

“He’s obviously using the time, making it beneficial to himself, obviously to come out and say he’s watching all them players I’m sure his knowledge of the players will be boosted by this.

“So long as he can go out and find a few to buy in the summer then he’ll be doing his job well.”

Speaking to the Bristol Post about his work during the UK-wide lockdown, Penrice said: “Obviously I can’t travel to see games, and there aren’t any anyway! But I can keep in contact with people.

“It’s actually been busy, manic, catching up with all stuff, and tapping into a huge global market. Celtic’s market is absolutely huge. It’s global. I am currently watching 240 players.”
