‘He’d be an absolutely Fantastic signing’ – Exclusive: Leeds transfer development excites Bent

Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart would be a “fantastic” backup option if he was to sign for Leeds United this summer, according to Darren Bent.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England striker admits he cannot see the 33-year-old being Marcelo Bielsa’s first choice between the sticks but believes he could still be a valuable addition to the squad.

As revealed by Football Insider this week, Hart would jump at the chance to hold talks over a move to Leeds and would be willing to take a pay cut to make it happen.

The former Manchester City star is set to become a free agent this summer and it is understood he wants to reignite his career in the top flight with an ambitious club.

However, Bent is not sure whether Hart would be first-choice material at Elland Road after struggling to play over the last couple of years

Asked if the shot-stopper would be a good signing for Leeds, Bent told Football Insider: “As a backup. I wouldn’t sign Joe as a first-team goalkeeper, he’s spent way too long now not playing.

“I think that with the amount of good goalkeepers out there at the minute. Listen, I think he’d be a fantastic backup, and that’s no disrespect to him, but he’d be a fantastic backup with his experience, maybe talk to some of the young goalkeepers.

“I think he’d be an absolutely fantastic signing as a backup.”

Hart has played just three times for Burnley this season, appearing on the bench for every one of the Clarets’ league games.

A two-time Premier League winner, the former Manchester City regular also has 75 England caps under his belt.
