'He'll be buzzing to play for Celtic' - Exclusive: Pundit reacts to huge Jan loan deal report

Gabriel Agbonlahor has backed Celtic defender Shane Duffy to rediscover his best form and put to bed an explosive report his loan deal could be terminated in January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker claimed the Irishman will be “buzzing” after putting in a solid performance last weekend.

Summer signing Duffy had come under a lot of criticism from Celtic fans for his role in their torrid run of two wins in 14 games.

There has been talks of Duffy returning to Brighton, with a report from Video Celts claiming the recall option will be exercised in January.

However, the Hoops have won their last two games and the 28-year-old completed 90 minutes in both games and scored the second goal in their 2-0 win over Kilmarnock on Sunday.

His defensive partner and man-of-the-match against Killie, Kristoffer Ajer hailed Duffy’s performance at Parkhead.

He told celticfc.com: “I think Shane Duffy deserved Man of the Match. He’s been through a lot, but the way he’s been in the dressing room and how he performed in the game was amazing and I’m so delighted for him.”

Asked by Football Insider whether the Brighton & Hove Albion loanee can now re-find his best form in Glasgow, Agbonlahor said: “100 per cent.

“Don’t forget he’s come from the Premier League to the Scottish League that are two different leagues.

“Everyone knows what Shane Duffy can do. He’s a Celtic fan at heart so he’ll be buzzing to play for the club, he’ll give 100% and he’s not hidden. He’s stuck with it and put in a great performance.

“He’s a great defender and I’m sure he’ll go on a run of putting in some great performances.”

Duffy joined the Hoops from Brighton on a season-long loan deal in September and has now played 18 times for the club he supported as a boy.

In other news, a top pundit has claimed a £4.5million Celtic star has been embarrassed by a shock development.
