Jackie McNamara has been left drooling over Celtic attacker Ryan Christie as he tips him to make a real impact on the European stage.
The former Hoops and Scotland star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, says that the 24-year-old has shown he has the ability and quality to shine in the biggest games, having enjoyed a bright start to the 2019/20 season.
The former Inverness attacking midfielder, who joined the Bhoys back in 2015, has been a mainstay under Neil Lennon in the club’s early fixtures, with six goals in as many games across the Champions League qualifiers and Premiership.
McNamara says that Christie will have to prove himself in the likes of the Champions League group stages and derby days against Rangers if he wants to prove his ability, but that he could hit exceptional heights if he is successful.
McNamara told Football Insider: “He’s got the ability to do it, games like last night (versus Cluj) will be the mark of him. Hopefully will be in the Champions League group stage, that is where you want to see the young players playing and how they handle the step up to that level.
“That’s where, as a Celtic player, you’re judged, that and the Old Firm games. Hopefully, he can take that into these games and he’ll be some player.”
Christie has played 57 times for the Hoops across all competitions, with 19 goals and 13 assists under his belt.
He has nearly 140 Premiership games worth of experience under his belt, having spent time on loan at Aberdeen during the early stages of his Celtic career.
In other Celtic news, it can be REVEALED that a Championship club has launched a last-minute move to sign a Hoops attacker before the English transfer deadline.
