Sadio Mane will be “unstoppable” for Liverpool for the rest of the season, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds United and Coventry City striker explained why he’s been blown away by the Senegal international as the Merseysiders chase Premier League and Champions League glory.
Whelan named Mane third in his player of the season list – the forward is on the official six-man PFA shortlist for the coveted gong – behind teammate Virgil van Dijk and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling.
Mane, 27, has scored 22 goals from 44 appearances this season, including 18 in the Premier League in the most prolific campaign of his career.
“Mane terrorises defenders and makes them look very stupid,” Whelan said. “He has been outstanding in recent months and scored so many crucial goals, including decisive first goals in matches.
“He must be a nightmare to play against. Not only does he have blistering speed and great movement and technique, but he is a strong boy, too, with a low centre of gravity. Defenders bounce off him. He can also turn them so quickly and leave them for dead.
“He’s a wonderful player who is in the form of his life. He’ll be unstoppable now for the rest of the season.”
Twelve of Mane’s 18 league goals have come since December, while he has also netted four times in the Champions League.
He is next in action on Friday night, when Liverpool host Huddersfield at Anfield.
