Naby Keita will “smash it” at Liverpool after showing hugely encouraging signs over the past week, according to Noel Whelan.
The former Leeds United and Coventry City striker told Football Insider he is convinced the midfielder will be a massive hit at Anfield after a sticky start to his Anfield career.
Keita joined last summer from RB Leipzig for £52million, 12 months after the terms of the deal had been agreed between the two clubs.
The Guinea international has been in and out of the starting XI, and has often been overlooked for the marquee fixtures, but has scored in each of Liverpool’s last two games, wins over Porto and Southampton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Whelan explained why Keita should now go on to achieve major things in a red shirt.
“He’s had tended to have a good game followed by an average game, but Jurgen Klopp has managed him cleverly, which you need to do when a player is adapting to a new environment and way of playing,” Whelan said.
“It’s pleasing to see him finally settling in. He offers something different to the other Liverpool midfielders, because he can drive forward with the ball, take players out of the game and open up space for others.
“I’m convinced he will smash it at Liverpool. They tracked him for such a long time, but the signs are it is going to be worth it.”
