Leeds United have been hit with a “reality check” after their heavy defeats to Leicester City and Crystal Palace, according to Darren Bent.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Spurs and England striker claimed the Yorkshire giants have looked complacent and played recklessly in recent weeks.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side lost both of their last two Premier League fixtures 4-1.
Prior to the defeats, Leeds had got off to a sensational start earning draws with Manchester City and inflicting high-flying Aston Villa with their first defeat of the season.
They have now kept just two clean sheets in their opening eight games, against Villa and strugglers Sheffield United.
And Bent believes the defence is the first thing that Bielsa will need to address going forward.
He told Football Insider: “They’re looking a little bit leaky. Sometimes it’s one of those things, it’s a blip. We know Leeds are going to be OK.
“The way they play with how hard they work, I fully expect them to be OK.
“I think it’s just maybe a little bit of a reality check that.
“You can’t just turn up and just do what you want to do and walk it. Sometimes you have to be a little bit cautious.
“We know Bielsa, he’s a genius. I can’t seem them playing so recklessly again.”
Last season, Leeds had the best defence in the Championship as they conceded just 35 goals in 46 games in the process of securing the title.
Already this season they have let in 17 goals in eight games, just under half of their total from the previous campaign.
