'Great player' - Ibrox Exclusive: Top pundit Wowed by hardly-seen Rangers man
Noel Whelan has claimed that Steven Gerrard will be “over the moon” with the impact of Leon Balogun at Rangers this season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, the former Pittodrie forward is convinced that the 32-year-old has already formed a formidable partnership with Connor Goldson at the heart of the Gers defence.
Balogun joined just a week before the start of the new Scottish Premiership season and hugely impressive in the first two games, one of which he was awarded Man of the Match.
The Nigeria international put pen to paper on a one-year contract at Ibrox, with the option of a further year, last month.
Whelan said that the centre-half will be an integral part of Gerrard’s team this season.
“They look to have already formed a solid partnership. Balogun is a great player,” he told Football Insider.

“He was man of the match in the first game and he has shown that he is not daunted by the task ahead of him.
“He is clearly enjoying life at Rangers and has settled in really nicely. That is what good players can do. They do not take too much time to settle. The best will bed themselves in.
“He is performing for his manager and Steven Gerrard will be over the moon with the way that he has started. He immediately looks comfortable and it is clear that he will be a really important player for Rangers this season.”
When speaking on this year’s title bid, Balogun said: “I think Rangers’ ambition is pretty clear. I’ve read a hashtag – ‘Stop the 10’. And the number 55 is a big one, too.
“That’s a pretty clear goal for this team. Obviously the club will do everything to accomplish that.”
