Gabriel Agbonlahor has claimed Leeds United transfer target Fikayo Tomori will look to leave Chelsea on loan in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker suggested the England international could solve Marcelo Bielsa’s defensive problems.
Football Insider revealed Leeds United are monitoring Tomori and a January loan move could be on the cards.
Bielsa is currently without summer signings Robin Koch and Diego Llorente and had to line-up with a makeshift back four in Leeds’ 5-2 win over Newcastle United on Wednesday and 2-1 defeat to West Ham United last Friday.
The Argentine claimed last week he has no plans to add another defender in the winter window.
However, Agbonlahor has called on the 65-year-old to make a U-turn and bolster his ranks.
He told Football Insider: “100 per cent Tomori could help their defence.
“What a talent, he’s a top defender. He’s had no game time at Chelsea so he’ll be looking to go out on loan. He was close to going to West Ham before the window closed in the summer.
“It would be good for them because Leeds need defenders. I’ve said it for six weeks now, their defence is not Premier League standard and I still believe that.
“You saw at West Ham, they got found at. Against other teams, if they play that defensive partnership it will happen again.”
Tomori has been limited to just 44 minutes of Premier League action this season and has not made a matchday squad in the league since 17 October.
The 22-year-old enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last term but has found his opportunities limited with the arrival of Thiago Silva.
