'Let's not forget...' - Exclusive: Whelan makes unexpected choice for Leeds POTY
Noel Whelan insisted Stuart Dallas should be in the conversation when discussing the player of the season for Leeds United.
The former Whites forward, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, highlighted the versatility and consistency of the 28-year-old this season under Marcelo Bielsa.
Dallas made his 38th appearance of the season on Saturday as United beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 in the Yorkshire derby.
The Northern Ireland international has played in numerous positions this campaign, including left and right wing-back, right-wing and central midfield.
Although he admitted Kalvin Phillips and Ben White deserve all their plaudits, Whelan suggested the versatile midfielder is deserving of the player of the season accolade.
“Let us not forget what Stuart Dallas has done for this side,” he told Football Insider.

“He has played in five different positions and has been the most consistent player of the lot and he definitely deserves a shout for the player of the year award. He has been incredible.
“The effort and the work rate from wing-back, whether he plays on the left or the right he has been so professional. He has set the standards for everybody this season with his performances. Non-stop.”
Dallas has been a mainstay in a United side that now sits top of the table after West Brom shared a stalemate with Swansea on Saturday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side needs six more wins to guarantee their return to the top flight of English football for the first time since 2004.
Next up for the Whites is a trip to Cardiff before the eagerly anticipated clash against Fulham a week on Wednesday.
