Darren Bent claims that Wolves will tie up their “biggest signing of the summer” if manager Nuno Espirito Santo agrees a new deal.
The former Aston Villa and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, believes that “top clubs” will be interested in the Portuguese 46-year-old after his spell in the Midlands.
As quoted by the Express and Star, Nuno has suggested that talks will take place between himself and the club over extending his stay at Molineux.
His current deal, which was signed back in 2018 after the club’s Championship-winning campaign, is set to run out next summer.
Bent believes that Nuno deserves to get more credit than he does and believes there will be plenty of interest from other clubs in taking him away from Wolves.
Asked if Nuno extending his contract could be the most important signing the club make this summer, Bent told Football Insider: “That is true, to be fair. A lot of these top clubs are going to start looking at Nuno because what a job he’s done.
“I kind of think that he doesn’t get the credit he deserves. He’s done well, people do sing his praises and go he’s been brilliant but they don’t sing and dance about it like they do other managers.
“I really like Nuno, I think he’s brilliant.”
Nuno told the Express and Star: “Now we are back (from lockdown), we will have time to talk. We still have a contract. We are here. It’s so good to be here.”
The Portuguese boss has been at Wolves since leaving Porto to take charge back in 2017.
In other Wolves news, Darren Bent has been left drooling over a “world-class” star at Molineux.
