‘He’s definitely coming in as the marquee signing’ – Exclusive Hutton claim on Rangers deal
Alan Hutton claims that Ianis Hagi will have a significant impact on Rangers’ spending ability this summer and expects him to be the club’s “marquee summer signing”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former Gers star believes there will be a big weight on the winger’s shoulders but that he can make a ‘massive difference’ to the team.
The Gers confirmed on Wednesday that they had turned the 21-year-old’s loan deal permanent after negotiating new terms of their option to buy.
Agent Giovani Becali recently claimed that the two sides had agreed a fee in the region of £4million.
Hutton has compared Hagi’s arrival to the big-money arrival of Ryan Kent last year, suggesting that there may not be too much more spending at Ibrox if others are not sold.
Asked if thought Rangers would have much more to spend, Hutton told Football Insider: “It’s difficult – I can’t imagine Rangers spending millions and millions of pounds, I think this will be a large part of it.
“I think we’re talking about £4million-ish and in terms of fees, it’s high for Rangers so he’s definitely coming in as the marquee signing this summer. It’s all about progression now.
“He’s obviously shown enough to the manager, the backroom staff and also the fans to warrant the signing. Coming with the fee, like Ryan Kent, there’s a big weight on his shoulders to go and prove himself.
“Kent, in his first season, did very well and then maybe struggled when he came in, struggled to get back to full form he had the previous year.
“I think both players, it’ll be a big season for them. A proper pre-season, no injuries, touch wood, and really try and kick on because these are two players that can make a massive difference for Rangers to really try and grasp that league off of Celtic.”
In other Rangers news, Hutton claims English clubs will be queuing to sign a Gers midfielder after an official announcement.
