‘He’s going to be all over the headlines again’ – Keith Wyness taken aback by Dominic Calvert-Lewin latest

Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s fine form for Leeds will have him in contention to make England’s World Cup squad.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who believes Thomas Tuchel will be keeping an eye on the 28-year-old.

Calvert-Lewin scored in six consecutive Premier League games for Leeds this season, becoming the first ever player from the club to do so.

Everton allowed Calvert-Lewin to leave the club for free at the expiry of his contract, in a move which has backfired on the Toffees.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin in ‘England contention’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has “no doubt” that Calvert-Lewin could be heading to the World Cup with England this summer.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks confidence is playing a big part in the striker’s form.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Look, I don’t know what his deal is at Leeds, but he’s obviously clicked, he’s fit, and he’s doing well. And he is that in the box-type player that is rare and he’s doing well, and he’s at a good age still.

“So I like him and I think his confidence, like every striker. When you break records like he’s just done at Leeds with a number of goals in consecutive games, I’m really pleased for him. And there’s no doubt he’s in England contention.

“And if he was to score a hat-trick at the weekend or whatever, he’s going to be all over the headlines again. But he’s playing off confidence. And it’s funny, isn’t it? Those strikers, when they’ve got confidence, it goes in. When they haven’t got confidence, it hits the post, or they put it over the bar. It’s so funny, but it does seem to happen. But Dominic’s a quality player. He’s a nice lad and I wish him the best.”

Leeds closing in on January addition

Leeds’ 1-1 draw with Man United has Daniel Farke’s side on course to be safe from Premier League relegation this season.

Calvert-Lewin has contributed eight goals this season, and Farke could now strengthen his defence in January.

Leeds are pursuing Chelsea defender Axel Disasi, who has not played for the Blues this season, and is available to leave Stamford Bridge.
