‘He’s the missing piece’ – Le Tissier wowed by what he’s seen from new Man United signing

Matheus Cunha has a reputation as a “hot-headed” player but Ruben Amorim can help fix that following his transfer to Man United.

That is according to former England and Southampton star Matt Le Tissier, who told Football Insider exclusively that the Brazilian was one of his favourite signings of the summer window.

In his two and a half seasons at Wolves, the 26 year old picked up 14 yellow cards in the Premier League.

Cunha was also sent off in an FA Cup tie against Bournemouth last season for headbutting then-Cherries defender Milos Kerkez.

The former RB Leipzig man also received a ban from the FA for his involvement in a post-match scuffle with Ipswich players and staff last season.

Former PGMOL chief Keith Hackett told Football Insider that Man United psychologists would work with Cunha to avoid any future flare-ups.

Matheus Cunha adds new dimension to Man United

This article contains exclusive comment from former Southampton and England striker Matt Le Tissier.

Whilst his disciplinary record is a concern, Le Tissier told Football Insider exclusively that he was excited to watch Cunha in action for the Red Devils this season.

When asked which signings most impressed him this summer, the Premier League legend said: “I really like Cunha as a player.

“I think sometimes he can be a little hot-headed, so he’s got to learn to curb that a little bit.

“That’s something that Amorim can help him with, but I think he’s definitely a player that Man United were missing.

“They haven’t got that kind of player in their squad.

“He’s very direct, he can score from anywhere, I really like him, I think he’ll be a good signing for Man United.”

Rasmus Hojlund closes in on Man United exit

Cunha led the line for Amorim’s side in their first game of the season, a narrow 1-0 loss at the hands of Arsenal.

The Brazilian started ahead of a notable absence from the matchday squad, Rasmus Hojlund, who is closing in on a Man United exit, the club’s former chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider.

The Denmark international has struggled since joining from Atalanta in the summer of 2023 and is now surplus to requirements.

Hojlund has been linked with both AC Milan and Fulham, and the signing of Benjamin Sesko leaves no place for the 22-year-old in Amorim’s side.
