Darren Bent has urged Leeds United to try and seal some sort of deal for loan star Ben White after being blown away by the defender’s performances this season.
The former Tottenham and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, claims the 22-year-old is good enough to be playing Premier League football after just a couple of seasons in the lower leagues.
White, who is on loan from Brighton, kept up his impeccable appearance record for the Whites on Thursday as he made his 42nd consecutive league start against Stoke City.
The centre back was booked in the opening five minutes but helped the Whites keep a clean sheet on the way to a comprehensive 5-0 win.
Bent has touted Leeds to make a move to ensure he is at Elland Road again next season, insisting he should be the priority for director of football Victor Orta.
Bent told Football Insider: “Ben White, he’s the one they need to hold onto, he is the one they need to try and do some kind of deal for, at least get him on loan again next season.
“I think he’s been absolutely fantastic and it wouldn’t surprise me if other Premier League teams are looking at him and thinking: ‘Hmm, he could do a job for us.’
“Honestly, he’s been that good this season. If they can get him on loan for another season or get him permanently, that’s the one they need to do.”
White, who has come through the youth ranks at Brighton, has just two appearances for the Seagulls’ senior side.
He is yet to feature in the Premier League, with most of his experience coming on loan at Leeds, Newport County and Peterborough.
