‘He’s the one’ – Newcastle told to sign PSG star amid Anthony Gordon ‘question marks‘

Newcastle United have been told to sign PSG star Goncalo Ramos after an update has emerged in their pursuit of Yoane Wissa.

Recruitment expert Mick Brown told Football Insider Ramos wants to join Newcastle this summer after scouts have been tracking his recent performances.

Eddie Howe’s side are considering their striker options following the speculation surrounding Alexander Isak, who is currently on strike as he looks to secure a move to Liverpool.

Newcastle have been attempting to sign Wissa throughout the transfer window, having seen an improved £40million bid rejected for his services on Wednesday (20 August).

Wissa took the unusual step of unfollowing Brentford on Instagram earlier this week as he looks to force through a move following Newcastle’s interest.

Anthony Gordon claim emerges after Newcastle striker pursuit

Ramos initially joined PSG on loan from Benfica in August 2023 before securing a permanent move to the French capital in a £69million deal later that year.

The 24-year-old has registered 34 goals and eight assists in 88 appearances for Luis Enrique’s side.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness said: “He’s one that I do think would fit well.

“I think he’s mobile enough to be considered and I think he’s the type that would work well.

“The question mark with Newcastle that I’ve got is Anthony Gordon at the moment.

“Is he really going to play a big role for this coming season and is he going to really do it?

“And that’s where I think that may make another bearing on Wissa or Ramos.

“Those are the sort of things I think they’re going to have to factor in in terms of an overall view of the Newcastle attack.”

Newcastle response to Kieran Trippier offer revealed

In terms of other transfer activity, former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson told Football Insider Newcastle are likely to reject offers for Kieran Trippier despite interest from Monaco.

Howe’s side are keen to keep a strong squad together ahead of their Champions League campaign and feel replacing the 34-year-old right-back could prove difficult.

Trippier played the full 90 minutes in Newcastle’s goalless draw against Aston Villa on Saturday (16 August).
