‘His body has gone’ – Troy Deeney feels ‘sad’ watching West Ham star who ‘can’t do it anymore’

West Ham United’s concerning form in the Premier League continued when they were beaten 2-1 by Crystal Palace on Saturday.

Consequently, Graham Potter is increasingly likely to be sacked, while West Ham have identified Slaven Bilic, Nuno Espirito Santo, Gary O’Neil, and Kieran McKenna as potential replacements.

The London Stadium club equalised through Jarrod Bowen against the Eagles on 20 September, but Tyrick Mitchell’s goal handed them their second consecutive defeat.

Meanwhile, West Ham are in turmoil, with supporters firmly voicing their views against the East London club’s hierarchy.

Troy Deeney raises major Callum Wilson concern

Striker Callum Wilson scored his first goal since joining Potter’s men in the summer in West Ham’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on 31 August.

Since then, though, the 33-year-old has failed to score in successive defeats against London rivals Tottenham and Crystal Palace.

Speaking live on talkSPORT’s Final Word on Sunday, 21 September, Troy Deeney said: “Callum Wilson, a friend of mine. I like him, got a lot of time for him.

It was sad watching him play. His body it’s just gone now, he’s gone.  He was quick, he was rapid, but I think he had a couple of moments in that game where the old Callum would have run away from people, and he just can’t do it anymore.

It’s a shame, because he is a really good lad. But what West Ham need right now is someone to get around, and I cannot believe in their youth team, there’s not someone there.

I can’t believe you’re going into a season with Callum, who is injury-prone, and (Niclas) Fullkrug.”

West Ham must defeat Everton amid growing relegation threat

Thanks to the growing sack pressure on Potter, it remains to be seen who will be in the West Ham dugout when they travel to Everton for their next game on Monday, 29 September.

West Ham are in poor form

Whether the Hammers allow Potter the chance to try and steer his side to victory over the Toffees or not, they must earn a win in Merseyside next time out.

West Ham’s defeat to Palace on 20 September left the East Londoners 19th in the Premier League, having managed just one win in five top-flight attempts.

Meanwhile, newly promoted trio Burnley, Leeds United, and Sunderland all earned points at the weekend, increasing relegation concerns at the London Stadium.

Consequently, another loss against Everton, who are vying to bounce back from their Merseyside Derby defeat, would place the Hammers in further trouble.

West Ham already appear set to struggle against Arsenal on 4 October, having suffered heavy defeats to Tottenham and Chelsea.
