Darren Bent suggested Celtic attacker Leigh Griffiths exit the Hoops in order to test himself in England.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Laura O’Leary, the former England international admitted that maybe it was time for Griffiths to leave Celtic after a successful spell.
The 29-year-old forward played no part in Celtic’s 1-0 win over Rangers in the Scottish League Cup on Sunday with him not even making the bench.
Bent shared that he believes it may be the right time for Griffiths to join a Premier League or Championship club instead of wasting his time on the Hoops’ bench.
When asked if playing no part in Celtic’s win over Rangers means time is up for Griffiths at Parkhead, Bent told Football Insider: “He has done so much for that club and has been there a long time.
“He’s had stints where he has had to play second-fiddle to various strikers when Dembele was there he had to spend a lot of time on the bench.
“Maybe his time is numbered after winning a lot of trophies.
“Maybe it’s time for him to go and test himself in a Premier League or Championship side as you don’t just want to sit up there and waste your time.
“You want to play games, you’ve won a lot of trophies at Celtic so maybe go test yourself somewhere else.”
Griffiths has played 12 times this season for the Hoops, racking up three goals and one assist in the process.
Neil Lennon explained that the 29-year-old failed to make the bench against Rangers on Sunday due to Odsonne Edouard being unable to start the game.
Griffiths previously had a spell in England with Wolves, with the former Scotland international managing to score 13 goals in 31 appearances for them.
