Glenn Hoddle has slammed Tottenham’s summer signings and claimed Vincent Janssen looks completely shot.
The Dutchman was one of Spurs’ three principal captures this summer along with Victor Wanyama and Moussa Sissoko.
Former Spurs manager Hoddle is concerned at the lack of impact Janssen has made after arriving for £18million from AZ Alkmaar with an excellent goalscoring record in his native Holland.
Janssen is yet to score from open play for Tottenham in 17 matches, with all three of his goals to date coming from the penalty spot.
He maintained his dry run during a 30-minute run-out as a substitute in Spurs’ 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday.
Hoddle is concerned about the lack of impact made by Janssen and Mauricio Pochettino’s two other main senior summer signings.
“It doesn’t feel as though the players they have signed in the summer have substantially strengthened them,” Hoddle wrote in his Mail on Sunday column. “Victor Wanyama has been a success and is a strong presence in midfield; but against that, Eric Dier is now much more unsettled, having been pushed out of that position.
“Vincent Jansen cannot adjust at the moment and his confidence looks some way short of what is needed. And for £30million you would expect an awful lot than what Moussa Sissoko is showing at present.
“He had a fine Euros, which was something of a turn-up after his displays at Newcastle; now we’re back to the player who, though talented, underwhelmed at St James’ Park.”
Tottenham are unbeaten in their 11 Premier League matches this season but they have failed to record a victory in any of their last seven games in all competitions.
Sunday’s draw against Arsenal cements their fifth position in the table, where they lie five points behind new leaders Liverpool.
In other Tottenham team news, this is the expected starting XI against Arsenal.
