Hourihane could lead Aston Villa exodus to Norwich on one 'massive' condition - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has backed Conor Hourihane to complete a move from Aston Villa to Dean Smith’s Norwich City.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa’s record Premier League goalscorer insisted other players will only follow if Villa can open a “massive” gap between themselves and Norwich.

Football Insider revealed earlier this week (November 16) Smith wants to make Hourihane one of his first signings at Carrow Road.

He is currently on loan at Sheffield United but is struggling for game time in the Championship and Villa could recall him in January to allow him to reunite with Smith.

The 50-year-old was unveiled as the new Canaries manager this week and he told Sky Sports he wishes nothing but the best for Villa as long as it does not come at the expense of his new club.

Asked whether Smith may be eyeing any other Villa stars, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “Conor Hourihane would be a good one.

“But it’s all going to depend on where Villa are. If results don’t go Villa’s way then they’re not going to let players go to a team that is also fighting relegation.

“Villa might be down there, we don’t know how it is going to go between now and the transfer window.

“Hopefully Villa will be out of the bottom five, bottom six. I don’t see Villa letting players go to Norwich unless there’s a massive gap between them and Norwich.”

Hourihane moved to Steve Bruce’s Villa from Barnsley in January 2017.

He was a key player during Smith’s tenure but slipped down the pecking order last season.
