How Bruno Fernandes has performed under all Man United managers amid upset with Ruben Amorim
Bruno Fernandes has been a star player for Man United under a number of different managers for five years now but has been unable to help stop their woes under Ruben Amorim so far this season.
Bruno Fernandes‘ mercurial talents have been on show for all to see at Man United since his 2020 arrival from Sporting CP for around £67.6million [BBC].
He is the Red Devils’ captain and their best player, but has been struggling this season amid under Ruben Amorim, with the club’s woes compounded by a 3-0 loss to arch-rivals Man City on Sunday (14 September).
Fernandes has scored once and is yet to provide an assist in the first five games of the new campaign, with his compatriot choosing to deploy him in a deeper midfield role rather than in his favoured number 10 position.
It is that Amorim’s system is not working, with United having won just one of those five matches, and Fernandes may wish that he was still working under some past Red Devils managers when his record under the current boss is compared to previous ones he has shone for at Old Trafford.
Bruno Fernandes unhappy with current Man United role
According to a new report from the Daily Mail (15 September), Fernandes is believed to be unhappy operating in a deeper midfield role, which is where he has played in all five United games so far this season.
He and his teammates are believed to be still struggling to get to grips with Amorim’s style almost 11 months after he took over, but the Portuguese boss has reportedly not yet lost the dressing-room, and still has support among the squad.
Former Old Trafford scout Mick Brown told Football Insider after their derby loss that Man United chiefs are losing patience with Amorim as he remains at risk of being sacked, and Fernandes will likely not be opposed to him losing his job solely based on his attacking record under his compatriot.
How Fernandes performed under past managers
Fernandes arrived at Old Trafford in 2020 and instantly became a key player under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, and he produced the best form of his career at the club while he was in charge, with 44 goals and 35 assists in 97 games.
Michael Carrick became caretaker boss for just three games after Solskjaer’s November 2021 sacking before Ralf Rangnick took over as interim until the end of that season in December and Fernandes notched just five goals and assists each in 26 games.

The Portuguese playmaker bagged 29 goals and 34 assists in 120 games during Erik ten Hag‘s ill-fated tenure, but he found form under Ruud van Nistelrooy last term with four goals and one assist in his four interim games at the helm.
Amorim’s 11 months in charge at Old Trafford so far have seen the 31-year-old rack up 16 goals and 12 assists in 45 matches, or 3,938 minutes, which works out at 0.64 goal contributions per 90 minutes.
