How Kobbie Mainoo has acted behind the scenes as Man United saga reaches ‘breaking point’

Ruben Amorim continues to bring more drama to Old Trafford as Kobbie Mainoo appears set to leave Man United permanently.

Amongst Premier League teams, Everton are heavily linked with Mainoo, as the Red Devils’ boss raises more questions over the 20-year-old’s future ahead of the January transfer window.

After 16 league matches, the midfielder has just 212 minutes to his name, with his last start coming in the infamous Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby Town back in August.

Napoli also remain interested in Mainoo, having wanted to sign him during the summer transfer window, but a long queue of giants across Europe are joining the race for his signature.

Despite the drama unfolding, it does not appear that the player has allowed it to affect his mindset.

Kobbie Mainoo continues to be a professional at Man United

According to the Daily Mail (19 December), Mainoo‘s relationship with his boyhood club has reached breaking point, with the player feeling the need to seek a new adventure away from Old Trafford.

There is still no progression in contract talks, with the player still on £40,000-a-week, but despite that and a total lack of first-team minutes, it is understood that the 20-year-old continues to act professionally.

He has continued to train well despite the lack of regular football, recording just 212 minutes of Premier League football this term, with Amorim continuing to reiterate that his direct rival is Bruno Fernandes.

Amorim has recently been criticised for also hitting out at young loanees, Harry Amass and Toby Collyer, leaving many totally speechless by the manager’s decisions around the club’s talented gems.

How does Mainoo’s family feel about the Old Trafford exit saga?

The article also reveals that other members of the Mainoo camp are sensitive to the topic, mainly due to their long association with the club over the last few years.

This includes the player’s father, Felix, who continues to be a calm presence on the sidelines, but the same cannot be said for his brother, who wore a “Free Kobbie Mainoo” shirt to the last home game.

Mainoo, however, feels that he has been left with no other option but to seek regular game time elsewhere, which could be permanent after not being allowed to leave on loan during the summer.

He would not be short of options. Multiple Premier League clubs are likely to be keeping tabs on the midfielder’s situation, as well as big names from across Germany, Spain, and Italy.
