How Man United players may feel about Ruben Amorim sack as key deadline looms
Manchester United are reportedly considering sacking head coach Ruben Amorim following the club’s 3-0 loss to Manchester City.
Reports emerged on Tuesday evening suggesting Man United are looking to sack Amorim during the October international break if results don’t improve.
Man United have shortlisted names to replace Amorim, should they have to sack the Portuguese head coach.
Amorim was criticised by pundits following Man United’s loss to Man City on Sunday for once again ignoring holes in his 3-4-2-1 system.

Man United players are losing faith in Ruben Amorim
Part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe looked astonished in the crowd during Man City’s 3-0 demolition of Man United, and it feels the writing is now on the wall for Amorim.
Journalist Alex Crook has now suggested that Amorim’s squad is losing faith in the ideas of the 40-year-old.
Crook wrote on X, saying: “I can see the players losing faith soon in the system. Hierarchy still backing Amorim to succeed.”
This comes after Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst also suggested that Man United’s hierarchy still have faith in Amorim.
Ruben Amorim digs a deeper hole at Man United
Amorim is a fiery character who has become known for his honest and brutal post-match press conferences.
However, it’s not the Man United boss’ demeanour that leaves him in hot water, but rather his stubborn tactical approach.
Man United’s start to the 2025-26 season | Result |
vs Arsenal | 0-1 (L) |
vs Fulham | 1-1 (D) |
vs Grimsby | 2-2 (10-11) (L) |
vs Burnley | 3-2 (W) |
vs Manchester City | 0-3 (L) |
Amorim will live and die by his 3-4-2-1 ideas, even going as far as playing Mason Mount as a left wing-back away at Grimsby, instead of changing his set-up.
This has left many to criticise Amorim, and his lack of flexibility, despite his ideas clearly not working may be one of the main reasons for his potential sacking.
