Huge Celtic transfer blow as Rodgers set to miss out on 20-year-old assist machine - report
By Will Butcher
Celtic are set to miss out on re-signing Manchester City ace Patrick Roberts for a third loan spell, according to a report.
However, the Daily Mail claims City are looking to loan the fleet-footed attacker to only a Premier League side or abroad this summer, potentially ruling Celtic out of a move.
The news will come as a huge blow to those involved with Celtic, as Roberts has proved to be one of the Bhoys’ biggest creative influences this season with a huge 17 assists in 44 games.
Scoring nine of his own goals, the England Under-20 international has helped Rodgers achieve a Scottish League Cup and Scottish Premiership medal, with the Scottish Cup final still to play.

However, Celtic’s number 27 is now likely to leave Glasgow for good, despite City’s desire to send him out on loan again.
Roberts has a contract with City until the summer of 2020, but faces stiff competition at the Etihad from the likes of Leroy Sane, Raheem Sterling, Nolito and Jesus Navas.
Football Insider verdict:
Celtic must do whatever they can to urge City to reconsider and bring Roberts back to Parkhead for another season. The youngster has come on leaps and bounds this season under Rodgers, and has even displaced Scotland international James Forrest on the right flank for the Hoops. With Celtic looking to go one better in the Champions League next season and make it to the knockout stages, Rodgers must keep his best players at Celtic Park and that includes the likes of Roberts. If Rodgers can convince the City hierarchy that they will mount a serious challenge in Europe, it might convince them that celtic can offer Roberts the sort of experience they’re looking for.
In other Celtic transfer news, Rodgers is eyeing a reunion with this Brazil international as well as a move for a Chelsea youngster.
