Alex Bruce has argued that Aston Villa would be taking a “bit of a risk” by making a loan move for Rhian Brewster this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hull City defender pointed out that the Liverpool youngster’s lack of Premier League experience is a concern, but also acknowledged that the lethal striker has “huge potential”.
The 20-year-old spent the second half of the 2019/20 campaign on loan with Championship outfit Swansea City, scoring 11 goals in 22 appearances for the Welsh side.
He has also netted prolifically at every level for England and Liverpool’s youth teams going back to his mid-teens.
It has since been reported that Villa are one of a number of Premier League sides who are keen on securing his services ahead of next season, provided Jurgen Klopp allows him to leave Anfield once more.
But Bruce has suggested that the move could be something of a gamble.
Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “I’m sure a few teams will be looking at him as a potential loan option.
“He went to Swansea and did very well so the next step is probably to get a Premier League loan move and see how he does.
“He’s a little bit of risk because he’s not played any Premier League games.
“However, he’s got huge potential and it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on, wherever he ends up.”
Brewster has made three senior appearances for Liverpool so far in his career, but is yet to register an outing in the Premier League.
Alongside Villa, Newcastle United, Brighton, Fulham and Crystal Palace, are also understood to be monitoring his situation on Merseyside.
In other Aston Villa news, the Villans have been backed to sign a 25-year-old from Premier League giants after a “huge” risk.
