Leeds United striker Caleb Ekuban has claimed that there are not many sides that are better than the Whites in the Championship as they aspire for a play off spot this season.
Thomas Christiansen’s men made a bright start to the season, losing just one of their opening nine fixtures, which saw them surge to the top of the Championship, boding well for the rest of the campaign.
However a dreadful run of form, which saw them lose seven of their next ten matches, has seen them drop down the table and lose ground on those at the top.
Their 2-0 win over Barnsley, their second win in seven days, means they currently sit eighth in England’s second tier, 15 points adrift of current table toppers Wolverhampton Wanderers, and three points off Derby County in the last of the play off spots.
However, despite their poor results over recent weeks, Ekuban, who was a summer signing from Chievo Verona, boldly claims that Leeds are one of the best sides in the Championship, and that they could do better than just securing a play off spot this season, despite the 11 point gap to second placed Cardiff City.
He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: “The play-offs are quite okay for our standards because we think there are not too many teams that are better than us.
“We think that the play-offs will be the right goal and I always think that we can even achieve more.
“There is a huge expectation but we know that we are players that can deal with that kind of pressure and we are showing it.”
The Whites will be hoping to take their form against Barnsley into Friday’s clash with Aston Villa at Elland Road, with Steve Bruce’s side six points ahead of Leeds in fourth.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites are facing a top flight fight to snap up a striker in red hot form.
