‘Huge problem’: Crystal Palace fear mass exodus as star names set to follow Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace are fearing they will lose more star players in the summer transfer window as Oliver Glasner prepares to step away from the role.

Marc Guehi left to join Man City in the mid-season transfer window, while Jean-Philippe Mateta‘s exit now feels inevitable despite ultimately remaining at Selhurst Park.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Crystal Palace are fearful of losing more star players after what has been a turbulent season.

Glasner‘s side remain in the UEFA Conference League, with ambitions of lifting more silverware, and face a crucial second leg against Zrinjski Mostar on 26 February.

That game could be pivotal to the rest of their season and their activity in the summer transfer window amid growing negativity as a result of the manager’s actions.

Crystal Palace fear exodus as Oliver Glasner exit looms

Football Insider revealed on 23 February that Crystal Palace will not sack Glasner and plan to stick with him until the end of the season despite recent outbursts.

However, his imminent departure has cast doubts over the future of a number of big names, whom Palace must now do everything in their power to keep.

Crystal Palace are in a very difficult situation again,” Brown told Football Insider.

“We had conversations about them over a year ago, and I said their number one aim has got to be keeping their best players at the club long-term.

“Since then, they’ve lost Eberechi Eze, they’ve lost Marc Guehi, Mateta doesn’t want to be there.

“There’s speculation about a number of their important players, whether they want to leave, where they might go, who might look to bring them in.

“I think they have to be doing everything they can to keep the spine of their team, that’s Dean Henderson, Maxence Lacroix, Daniel Munoz, Adam Wharton.

“But it’s not going to be easy because the manager is leaving and many of those players might look at it and think, if he’s going, I’m going too.

“That’s the situation Palace have to manage now, they need a clear plan and structure to do that but it’s definitely going to be a huge problem for them.”

Glasner hints Crystal Palace stars have already checked out

Palace’s concerns have ramped up after Glasner claimed some of his players are already looking towards next season and whether they might secure a move elsewhere.

He claimed: “Many players think they have to move on and some are looking at where they will play next year rather than where they are playing right now.” [via Bobby Manzi]

While he didn’t expand on which players this was in reference to, Brown told Football Insider that Adam Wharton could be about to leave Crystal Palace.

The 21-year-old has seen a notable downturn in his performances of late, with the likes of Man United and Liverpool watching, leading to suggestions of unrest.

Palace are enduring a run of just two wins from their last 16 games following a 1-0 win against Wolves, with a close eye now being cast on their star names.
