Leeds United forward Rodrigo Moreno will find it difficult to force his way into the side against Chelsea at the weekend, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley, the former Aston Villa and England striker claimed the Whites’ record signing will only start alongside Patrick Bamford against “lesser teams”.
The Spain international has not started for the Yorkshire giants since returning from a period of self-isolation earlier this month.
He has been introduced from the bench in their 0-0 draw with Arsenal and 1-0 victory over Everton.
This site revealed last week Rodrigo’s performances in training have been “scintillating” and have blown his teammates away.
However, Agbonlahor has insisted he expected the 29-year-old to not make the starting XI against the Toffees.
He told Football Insider: “I wasn’t surprised that Rodrigo didn’t start against Everton.
“The game before against Arsenal they were the stronger side and that team Marcelo Bielsa started with played very well so sometimes just because the team didn’t get a result if they played well you’re not going to change it.
“Rodrigo will find it difficult to get back into the team.
“Certain games you cannot play Rodrigo and Bamford. They’ll look at the Chelsea game as one where you cannot play them both and he’ll put another midfielder in there who will help.
“I don’t see Rodrigo playing the next game.
“Maybe when they play lesser teams where they fancy themselves to win they might go with them both.”
Rodrigo moved to Leeds from Valencia for a club-record fee of £29million in September.
His only starts in the Premier League this season came against Fulham, Wolves and Aston Villa.
