Huge Tottenham boost as star man could return for Arsenal showdown

By Tottenham correspondent Tony Hughes

Mousa Dembele is in line to return for Tottenham in Saturday’s derby showdown against Arsenal, Mauricio Pochettino has revealed.

The Belgian has been sidelined for Spurs’ last three matches with a groin injury sustained in the first half of their FA Cup defeat by Crystal Palace on 21 February.

Dembele was sorely missed on Wednesday night as the title challengers lost 1-0 at West Ham to end a run of six consecutive Premier League wins.

However, Pochettino is hopeful the key midfielder will return to fitness in time for the visit of Arsene Wenger’s side to White Hart Lane at the weekend.

“He has a chance,” revealed Pochettino at his media briefing on Thursday afternoon. “We will assess him tomorrow after the last training session.”

Dembele has been one of Spurs’ outstanding players this season and has formed a fine midfield partnership with the more defensive Eric Dier.

Spurs are currently second, three points behind leaders Leicester, and could open up a six-point gap over rivals Arsenal with victory on Saturday.
