‘Hugo Ekitike is joining Man United’ – fans wowed by journalist’s update

Man United fans have reacted all but unanimously, urging the club to move swiftly for Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike.

Man United are scouring the market for a new forward after a disappointing campaign that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League and fall short in the Europa League final.

Rasmus Hojlund had a disappointing season and while Man United have already secured the signing of Matheus Cunha, the Brazilian is not viewed as the solution to lead the line.

Now, supporters have expressed their excitement after reports emerged that United have joined the race to sign one of the most sought-after strikers currently available.

Man United join Liverpool and Chelsea in Hugo Ekitike race

Sky Sports reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed via X that Man United have “entered the race” for Hugo Ekitike.

He added that the Red Devils have “made contact” with Eintracht Frankfurt and expressed “concrete interest” in the striker. However, the Bundesliga side are reportedly demanding a fee of €100million (£85m) for the 22-year-old.

Back in March, Football Insider reported that Man United had shown early interest in Ekitike, although Frankfurt were keen to keep hold of the Frenchman at the time.

That stance now appears to have changed, with the German club ready to cash in, but it remains to be seen whether United are willing to meet such a sizeable valuation.

Chelsea are also reportedly keen on Ekitike, despite already securing a deal for Liam Delap, as they continue their search for another striker to strengthen the squad.

Ekitike enjoyed an outstanding season in Germany, scoring 22 goals and registering 12 assists in more than 3,600 minutes of action across all competitions.

Football Insider also revealed that Liverpool have a strong interest in Ekitike and that he is rated highly on their list of striker targets.

However, the Merseyside club may need to offload one of their current attackers before making a formal move. Both Darwin Nunez and Luis Diaz have been linked with potential exits this summer.

United’s entry into the race could give them the edge, particularly if Liverpool delay their approach.

Supporters are already calling for the club to act swiftly, with one fan commenting: “Proper striker!! Great great fit for Amorim” while another added: “Yep, this guy ticks a lot of boxes and will improve the United attack massively.”
