Hugo Lloris compares Tottenham duo to France legends

By Matt Farr

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has compared Danny Rose and Kyle Walker to former France internationals Bixente Lizarazu and Lilian Thuram.

The 29-year-old stopper grew up watching Thuram and Lizarazu in action for France, and was just beginning his youth career at Nice when the two stars led France to the 1998 World Cup title and Euro 2002 titles.

Lloris believes that current Spurs team-mates Rose and Walker can emulate the pair, and become one of England’s greatest full-back pairings.

The England duo have been in tremendous form for Tottenham this season, contributing to a defence that has conceded just 12 goals in the league, whilst also contributing two goals and seven assists between them.

When asked whether the pair could reach that level Lloris told the Evening Standard: “Yes, and for England too. They are still competing with good players but if they keeping working hard, I would not be surprised if they have great international careers – and they will help the club achieve great things as well.

“They are very committed to the team. They have been at the club for a number of years and you can see that on the pitch. They way they play, the way they run; they can feel it.

“In the way we play, they have a lot of freedom. We play a very attacking game but they try to be as strong as possible at the back.

“First of all, they try to be good defenders but they also create chances. In the last two games, against Hull and Burnley, they were decisive for the team.”

Lizarazu made 97 appearances for France, and represented the likes of Bordeaux, Marseille and Bayern Munich, before retiring from the game in 2006.

Thuram, meanwhile, remains the most-capped player in the history of the French national team with 142 appearances. He retired in 2008 after spells with AS Monaco, Parma, Juventus and Barcelona.

Lloris, on the other hand, is on 85 caps, and has established himself as France’s no.1 goalkeeper since his arrival on the international scene in 2008.

In other Tottenham news, this is why Tottenham must outbid their rivals for this player.
