Hutton demands Scottish FA treat Scott Brown the same as Rangers stars
Alan Hutton has backed Steven Gerrard’s call for more consistency from the SFA and demanded Scott Brown is treated the same as Rangers stars.
The former Gers defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested every Premiership manager would want to see more regularity in the decision making of officials after several high-profile incidents in Scotland’s top flight.
Speaking to the media earlier this week, Gerrard demanded a great level of consistency from officials and the disciplinary process after Alfredo Morelos was retrospectively banned for violent conduct against Hibernian.
The Colombian’s ban drew the ire of supporters and pundits after Darren McGregor was allowed to go unpunished for a similar incident in the same game.
Kemar Roofe has since been charged by the SFA after his tackle on St Johnstone’s Murray Davidson, despite being booked for the incident by referee David Munro at the time.
Hutton believes Gerrard has a point when it comes to the retrospective punishment being handed out and insisted most, if not all, managers would want the same.
Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: “Morelos has had a few now, there’s no getting away from it, and his profile is very high. Obviously, I would imagine referees keep a close eye on him, it’s just the way it works, it‘s as simple as that.
“Gerrard’s right in what he says, you just want everyone treated the same. If that’s how they’re treating that stamp or an elbow or Scott Brown’s elbow, then everybody must be judged in the exact same way.
“That’s all he’s looking for and if that’s the case, then it’s fair, you can hold your hands up and say no problem and everybody can move on. There’s nothing wrong with what he’s said, I think that’s just what every manager wants in the league.”
Morelos, who is currently serving a three-game ban, has now been retrospectively punished twice after he was adjudged to have elbowed Mark Connelly against Dundee United.
In other news, Hutton has been left buzzing over Rangers player update from Auchenhowie.
