Hutton drops ‘massive’ Mings claim after Aston Villa training update pre-Tottenham

Tyrone Mings would be a “massive miss” for Aston Villa against Tottenham, according to Alan Hutton.

The former Villa star, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 28-year-old was crucial to the Villans having a bright finish to the season.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, Dean Smith confirmed he was hopeful to have the centre-back available for Wednesday’s clash.

Villa then posted a picture of Mings back in training on Twitter.

He missed the defeat to Crystal Palace with a knee injury picked up in the 0-0 draw with Everton last week.

It was the first Premier League game the defender had sat out since being suspended against Chelsea in December.

“Only Tyrone and Dean Smith will know how bad he is,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“It’s been such a quick turnaround, it must have just been a niggle, in my opinion. He’s a massive miss, he’s kind of the leader at the back. You can hear him with no fans organising everybody. Of course, he’ll be a miss.

“He’s a left-footer playing on that side and I always like that balance. Kortney Hause came in and done a decent job. He did okay, but I still believe that miss Tyrone.

“You want him back for the last couple of games, you want to finish on a high. I think they’ve got that little battle with Leeds at the moment, who can finish 10th. There’s still a lot to play for Villa and he’ll want his top players playing.”

The centre-back has played every minute in all but three league games this season.

He has a total of 89 appearances under his belt for Villa to date.
