Hutton hails Cantwell for helping Rangers land new signing

Alan Hutton has suggested Todd Cantwell played a big part in bringing Kieran Dowell to Rangers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers defender said there is “nothing better” than having someone you have played with before to fill you in about a new club.

The Light Blues confirmed the signing of Dowell on a pre-contract agreement from Norwich City (24 May) ahead of his official arrival on 1 July.

The 25-year-old spent almost three years at Norwich and played alongside his soon-to-be Rangers teammate Todd Cantwell.

Cantwell was one of Michael Beale’s first signings since his arrival at Ibrox when he made the switch from the Championship side back in January.

Since his arrival, Cantwell has hit the ground running with the Glasgow club scoring six goals in 16 appearances.

When asked how positive it is to have a former teammate at your new club, Hutton told Football Insider:It is absolutely perfect, there is nothing better.

If you are going into a league or a football team and you do not really know it but there is a player that you have come through the ranks with you can rely on them to tell you what it is all about.

I think Cantwell has really hit the ground running, he know what that feeling is like to score goals at Ibrox, to play in big games.

For what they are trying to achieve moving forward these are the kind of young, hungry signings that you need.

In other news, another Rangers exit confirmed as official paperwork filed.
