Hutton makes emphatic Conor Gallagher claim after journalist’s Newcastle United transfer update

Alan Hutton suspects Conor Gallagher will stay and fight for a place at Chelsea instead of joining Newcastle United.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender suggested there will be “a whole host of teams” interested in signing the 22-year-old.

According to The Sun‘s Dan King (14 August), Newcastle are interested in the England international.

The Blues are said to value the midfielder at £40million.

His contract at Stamford Bridge runs until the end of June 2025.

When asked for his assessment of the latest, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think there would be a whole host of teams willing to take Conor Gallagher if I’m honest, especially after last season.

“It doesn’t surprise me a team like Newcastle are interested.

I’d love to see him at Aston Villa as well. He brings so much to the team, not just in the midfield but with his goals as well.

Chelsea

He’ll want to come through at Chelsea, he’ll want to break into that team. Is it going to be possible week in week out? Maybe, but it’s going to be difficult. Tuchel has a strong squad there. He has been given game time but I think it’s always going to be difficult to be a regular starter.

It really depends on how that conversation has gone with Tuchel and himself, what his plans are for Gallagher moving forward. If you’re a squad player, you need to just bide your time, grab your chance and he might not be willing to go down that route, he might look to go somewhere to get regular game time. I think there would be a whole host of teams who would want to take him.
