Hutton: 'Massive relief' for Aston Villa after Athletic update over star men
Alan Hutton has insisted Aston Villa boss Dean Smith will be relieved after Emi Buendia and Emi Martinez reportedly left international duty early.
The former Villa defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted he “couldn’t believe what was happening” after Argentina’s World Cup qualifying clash with Brazil was interrupted by medical authorities.
The Athletic reported yesterday (September 6th) that Buendia and Martinez have been released from international duty.
The release of the Aston Villa stars means they will return a week earlier than anticipated pending the completion of mandatory quarantine in Croatia.
Officials were forced to abandon the game between Argentina and Brazil was after health professionals intervened.

“It’ll be a massive relief,” he told Football Insider‘s Russell Edge.
“When I was watching it I just couldn’t believe what was happening.
“I’m sure when Dean Smith was watching it, he was panicking because these are two top talents that are starters for Aston Villa – they won’t want to lose them for any game.
“It just shows that the whole thing about clubs allowing players to fly off to internationals in red list zones is really difficult for everyone involved.
“Dean Smith will be glad that the two of them are only missing the one game.”
The Brazilian government (September 6th) have accused the four Argentine players from the Premier League of providing false information and breaking Covid-19 protocol.
The other two players, Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso, remain with the Argentina squad.
