Hutton shares £5m reveal after Celtic finalise Carter-Vickers signing from Tottenham

Alan Hutton has raised serious doubts over Cameron Carter-Vickers’ move to Celtic after what he saw at Tottenham.

The former Scotland international, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 23-year-old’s lack of sharpness would be “another problem” for the Bhoys.

Celtic confirmed on Tuesday night (31st August) they had signed Carter-Vickers on loan with an option to buy from Spurs.

As revealed by Football Insider, the move came about after Bournemouth pulled the plug on signing the defender.

Tottenham were looking for a £5million fee to sell him permanently.

Hutton watched Carter-Vickers start for Spurs in their 1-0 defeat to Pacos de Ferreira last month.

He admitted he was not convinced by what he saw from the defender.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “He’s one I’m not sure about if I’m totally honest.

“I covered the Tottenham game against Pacos de Ferreira and he played in that. He didn’t have the best of games, he looked really rusty.

“I’m not sure how many games he played in pre-season. It wasn’t his best night. That was a real opportunity for him to shine for Tottenham and try to get a move.

“It ended up there wasn’t much interest in him. Celtic have obviously needed reinforcements and they’ve gone in for him. I know there was interest earlier on in the window.

“They were talking about £5million, from what I was told. Obviously, that seemed a little bit high. He’s coming up to Scotland to prove his worth to everyone. Not just to Tottenham but everybody in general.

“He did look rusty so that’s another problem for Celtic. Defensively, that’s where they’re struggling. You want someone to come in full of confidence, hit the ground running and make them better.

“It’ll be interesting to see how it works out. At this moment in time I’m not sure how that’s going to play out. He needs to get up to fitness and speed, then we can really judge him.”
