Hutton suggests Mings raging behind Smith’s back after Aston Villa dressing room reveal

Alan Hutton has claimed Tyrone Mings will have “had some words” with the Aston Villa squad behind Dean Smith’s back after the 3-2 defeat to Wolves.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Scotland full-back insisted the recently-appointed Villa captain would not have remained quiet following the Villans’ dramatic collapse.

As quoted by Sky Sports, Dean Smith revealed there was “silence” in the Villa dressing room after they allowed a 2-0 lead to slip in the final 10 minutes.

Late goals from Romain Saiss, Conor Coady and Ruben Neves sealed a dramatic victory for the visitors at Villa Park.

Smith branded the result and manner of performance a “travesty”.

Despite the manager’s claims of a quiet dressing room, Hutton insisted team leaders, like Mings, will have had some stern words after the game.

However, he suggested they may have waited until Smith was out of earshot to vent his rage.

“I think there will have been some words said throughout the time,” Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge.

“I know Dean Smith has to go away and do his press stuff and things. I’m sure the likes of Tyrone Mings and that, they’re very vocal, they’ll have had stuff to say.

“After that, when the reality sets in, you’re very disappointed and heads do go down. I can understand that happening but now it’s up to Dean Smith to lift them.

“They’ve got a massive game against Arsenal on Friday night. They have to go again.

“There’s no point in feeling down and sorry for yourself. You have to pick yourself up, analyse it and go again.”
